How I got into the Surety Industry – Part 1
The job interview that got me into surety industry
I got to the interview with time to spare and spoke with a very nice woman who told me the Manager would be in shortly. As I sat in the front office truly not knowing what to expect, this woman came through the door like a whirlwind, yelling and cursing about something that had just happened. I sat there not knowing what to do. Until the nice woman from earlier came out and said “Ok, Marcia will see you now”. Wait a minute… you mean that woman that just flew in here like the tazmanian devil is who I have to talk to? To say I was scared is a huge understatement.
The next 30 minutes were a blur. I remember taking a typing test and being told I could not type worth a darn. I don’t remember much else about that interview except that woman was someone I wanted to work for. She scared me, but I knew I’d learn so much but figured there was no way she’d hire someone who’s biggest accomplishment at 19 was the record I held for wrapping the most chili cheese dogs in 60 seconds at Der Weinerschnitzel…yep, that was me!
I got the job, even though the other gals in the office told her she was crazy for hiring me. I worked for Marcia on the surety side for many years until she opened up her own agency. She was a great mentor and I still look to her for guidance with my own agency. Also, she has taught me so much over the years and I still talk to her to this day. She is truly someone I respect and appreciate for giving me that chance so many years ago.
